Cabot Sanmar, a joint venture between Cabot Corporation and The Sanmar Group, has announced an investment of ₹220 crore (approximately $25 million) to expand its fumed silica manufacturing facility in Mettur, near Salem.
The brownfield expansion is aimed at doubling the plant’s production capacity to address growing domestic demand, with commissioning targeted for the fourth quarter of calendar year 2027.
The joint venture manufactures CtAB-O-SIL, a product widely used across industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, personal care, and crop protection. Around 30% of its fumed silica output is utilized in the pharmaceutical sector, while the remaining 70% caters to various chemical applications across other industries.
